Duong Van Bo
Bo was found in 2000 by a retired physician traveling in Vietnam who noted the large growth on Bo's face. Since the doctor was familiar with our work he sent photos and information to Dr. Brennan and asked if we could help Bo. With the assistance of Ann Tours in Hanoi, we were able to contact Bo's mother and arrange for x-rays to be done locally; when these proved to be inconclusive, Ann Tours paid for Bo and his mother to fly to Hanoi for a CT Scan. Project Vietnam funded the rest of their expenses. It was determined that surgery could be done in Hanoi to remove most of the growth, which was later determined to be non-malignant.
We are now in need of funds to fly Bo back to Hanoi for another CT Scan and general assessment, to determine if the growth has worsened again. Bo lives alone with his mother in a small house with no running water or electricity. We would also like to provide Bo's mother with some long-term financial assistance.
Duong Van Ha
Duong Van Ha was 11 years old in Hoa Binh in 2001, received surgery for cleft lip. He was operated on by Project VietNam's Dr James Norris and a local surgeon Dr Ke. These photos show Ha just before surgery, the morning after, two days after, and then at 6-month periods through 2003. Upon his return home, Ha was invited to enroll in a school program for gifted students, which Project Vietnam is funding since Ha's family cannot afford the tuition. Project Vietnam has also given financial support to Ha's family, and they have made numerous improvements in their lives, investing in farm animals and increasing their agricultural productivity. We will continue to support Ha through high school and into college. He needs dental work now, and we are seeking contributions for that.
